Orientation Underway

I have just finished Day TWO of Footlight Players orientation! How exciting it is to be collaborating with over 30 other theatre educators, designers, and professionals to create an amazing summer experience for the youth of Pennsylvania. On a regular basis, I will be meeting with my mentors, Rachel and Brian, while working with Tucker (the scenic designer) in the scene shop. All three are pictured below! As previously mentioned, there are four shows that Footlight's two groups will be performing in total. The younger group, the Campers, will be performing an original devised play and the musical Aladdin, Jr.; the older Academy group will be performing a play titled The Birds and the musical Fiddler on the Roof, Jr. As the scene shop intern, I will be helping to build specific set pieces, pull props, build ramps, hang lights, ensure the sound is audible, paint, and assist with any set projects needed for these shows to be a success. Aside from my duties in the scene shop, all of the interns have a chance to interact with the students. I have actually designed the weekly lunch activities and will be enabling positive group conversations along with facilitating improvisation games each day. I cannot wait until next week when all of the Players arrive to get the ball rolling!
